1 The background of the workshop was set in an existing old residential area that is facing demolishment in Shanghai. Students are required to read and evaluate the built environment and the real lives happened in that area and try to explore the problems and potential values and solutions and then put forward their ideas for future improvements.
This workshop encourages students to rethink the current model of urban development in Shanghai and recognize promising cases of socio-technical innovation that are at the same time, solutions to some current problems and meaningful steps towards a sustainable society.
